About Dancing Man Productions
Founded by Freddie Lee Heath and Mark Steward, Dancing Man Productions is a platform that not only showcases diverse artistic talents, but also empowers individuals—especially senior citizens. Through various art forms, its MO is to celebrate creativity and cultural expression, providing a platform for artists and entertainers to share their work with the world.
A little bit of background: Music Theatre International controls the rights to a majority of all the plays and musicals available. Several years ago, they started doing “Junior” versions of a lot of their shows—think local productions like Aladdin Jr. or Beetlejuice Jr. starring kids-only casts. Fast-forward, and they’ve just launched “Senior” versions as well, in which the cast is composed of actors 55 and over. Both the Junior and Senior versions are very condensed and typically run for an hour to 75 minutes. When Freddie Lee first saw this, he jumped on board and got the rights to perform these locally. Now, he is partnering with Raleigh Little Theatre to use their space and resources to bring these shows to light, with the first production being Guys and Dolls Sr.!
About Guys and Dolls Sr.
Called “the perfect musical comedy,” Guys and Dolls opened on Broadway in 1950, earning positive reviews and awards, including Tony Awards, Drama Desks, and Oliviers. Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, the Senior version is an oddball romantic comedy during which gambler Nathan Detroit tries to set up the biggest craps game in the city without being caught by the authorities. He turns to fellow gambler Sky Masterson (that’s me!) to secure cash for the game, but Sky ends up chasing a straight-laced missionary as a result. Navigating through Times Square and NYC sewers to Havana, Cuba—with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser—it’s a real treat for all audiences!
