The kitchen is one of our favorite places in a home. It’s where you gather with friends and family whether you are enjoying a meal, sipping a cocktail, or just socializing.
At the end of 2018, Houzz gathered information from 1,337 Houzz users who had completed a kitchen remodel or addition project in the previous 12 months, were currently working on one, or were planning to start one in the next three months. From their study, they put together a report on the top trends for counters, backsplashes, floors, appliances, walls, and more.
If you are thinking about renovating your kitchen, check out some of the trends below. This is especially great information for those that are doing a renovation project in hopes of selling their home.
Let’s Talk Countertops
According to a study done by Houzz, they are the number one feature to upgrade as part of a kitchen renovation, with 93 percent of renovating homeowners upgrading this element. White quartz is currently the most popular material and color for counters. This is the first time in four years that natural stone has not been the frontrunner. One in three upgraded counters are done in various shades of white, and we have to say, we are loving this trend. It makes your kitchen feel very bright and open.
On to Backsplashes
Nearly nine out of ten renovating homeowners are installing a kitchen backsplash. The most popular materials are ceramic or porcelain tile with the most popular pattern being the classic brick in which tiles are laid in an offset pattern in alternating rows, as on a brick wall. As with the countertops, various shades of white are what people are gravitating towards.
What to Walk On + Wall Colors
For flooring, ceramic or porcelain tile is the top choice. Hardwood flooring has declined in popularity over the last couple of years. As we move up to the walls, we get away from white, but not by very much. Gray is the most popular color for kitchen walls.
Black Stainless Steel Is In
Stainless steel remains the top choice for new appliances, but black stainless steel is rising in on the totem pole. Ten percent of renovating homeowners upgrading their kitchens are choosing a black stainless finish for their renovated kitchens.
