One of my favorite places to shop online is Marine Layer and it is not just about the cute clothes – which they have – they are also working to save the environment with their Re-Spun program. You give them old tees, they give them new life. For every t-shirt, you donate to their program, they will give you a $5 credit towards your next Marine Layer purchase! You get a $5 credit for every tee you donate up to $25. The best part is, the t-shirts can be in any condition. Holes, stains, rips, they are breaking them down to the fiber level, so it does not matter!
Re-Spun
Marine Layer created an entirely waterless, closed-loop production process. First, you give them your old tees and they sort them out by color. Then they break them down to the fiber level. They add recycled plastic bottles to the fibers to create their recycled yarn. Then you have a new(ish) favorite t-shirt!
So far, they have collected over 70,000 t-shirts. My favorite part of the process is no new materials are used. Thousands of old tees plus recycled plastic fiber means they are only using what already exists. They do not even use water or dyes! The colors you get are from the combination of recycled shirts of the same color.

Marine Layer has clothes for guys, gals, and even your little ones! Almost all of their clothing comes from SF or LA, where some of the best knits in the world are made. For some of their more technical styles, they turn to sewers overseas that work in the same ethical and sustainable factories that they use over here. This means that all of their clothing is made responsibly (by adults).
