We asked our friends at Tower Heating and Air to help us with some tips to prep your home both indoors and outdoors for the winter! Take a look below for their tips.
Indoors
Clean and maintain your heating system. It is so important to have a clean system in preparation for the cold weather. Tower Heating & Air has an awesome maintenance plan that helps to keep your HVAC system running smoothly all year long.
Purchase a smart thermostat. Tower recommends this for all of their clients! With a smart thermostat, you are able to create temperature settings based on daily schedules, weather conditions, home zones, heating and cooling needs, and more. Smart thermostats have the ability to learn a household’s pattern and adjust heating and cooling according to when you are home or away.
Keep your vents open in every room. Closing vents in rooms that are not used often may seem like a good way to save money but it actually makes your home feel colder and your system work harder.
Replace your air filters. You should be changing your air filters consistently to keep your HVAC system and your indoor air safe and healthy! Have questions about which type of filter you should be using? Tower gives us the answer here.
Outdoors
Remove your water hose. This is the number one tip from the Tower team! Remove the garden hose from your outside spigot. Leaving it attached could cause it to freeze and in the end, it will ruin your spigot.
Clean your gutters. Prevent expensive water damage by cleaning your gutters!
Check your trees. Make sure there are no weak branches that could damage your home if they break during a snowstorm or wind storm.
Now, go out and get prepped for winter! For all of your heating and cooling needs, give my friends at Tower Heating & Air a call. The best part about this locally owned business? They are on call 24-7 with real people answering the phones. It doesn’t get much better than that!
